The Johannissyan Institute’s Divan Project has initiated the systematization and digitization of Soviet Armenian writer Vache Sargsyan’s (1923-1987) personal archive. The main part of the archive is comprised of several versions of the only large manuscript the author wrote after his return from the Gulag, the novel Aceldama, his letters, literary scholarly opinions about the novel, documents from periodicals as well as the author’s notebooks from his student years. The archive provides a possibility for studying the complex relationship between the experience of exile and literature, the situation of a writer in post-Stalinist Soviet Armenia and his desires for national liberation.
